Sacred Blood Rites

The womb is a precious and powerful thing.
The ability to create life, to nurture and support other living things, is profound and magical, and it comes with great life-changing responsibility.

Living in a woman’s body means a life dictated by blood. Whether revered or suppressed, menstruation is a constant companion. The shifts in body and spirit during Menarche, the first blood, to the restructuring of the body and of ones life during Pregnancy and Birth, to the cessation of blood and the stepping into one’s power during Menopause; all stages are profound and far-reaching.

Modern American culture barely acknowledges these sacred transitions, with women often carrying shame, fear, and isolation during menstruation. Men attempt to control women through legal and cultural means, and the fate our wombs is a hotly debated political topic.

Let’s reclaim our magic and our power.

Together, in circles of women, we create the future: a community of support, reverence for all life, and sovereignty of our bodies, our minds, and our spirits.

The Sacred Blood Rites

Menarche – A celebration and honoring of the transition from child to woman

Blessing Way – Care and support for the transition from woman to mother

Loss of children (Abortion, Miscarriage, Death) – A sacred container for grief

Menopause – Honoring the release of bleeding and stepping into one’s power as a matriarch

Ceremony

We gather together with a circle of women, drawing our power from nature and from each other. The ritual itself looks different for each person being honored, but has the same central elements:
– a sacred container of time, space, and intentionality where the mundane daily thoughts are set aside and we become present in our bodies and the moment and we focus on supporting you, the woman at the center.
– held in a potent place. This is a welcoming place where you feel safe. This can be within the home, on land near the home, or somewhere else supportive to you. The land both gives and receives during rituals, so chose a place that is sacred to you. It will help hold you tenderly through the ritual and it will absorb the magic of warmth, connection, and transformation that we create together.
– a sisterhood of women. Who do you choose to join you for this ritual? Who will support you now and into the future? If you are blessed with close female friends, a mother, grandmothers, and/or sisters and you feel safe with them and cared for by them, that is wonderful. The circle can be as small or as large as you wish. These rituals can be done alone, but they are not as potent. If you struggle to think of who to invite, consider going to a Red Tent first and connecting with like-minded women to grow your support network.

Creation Process

I will work with you to dream up and then create the ceremony that best fits you. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you desire. We will draw from your ancestral lineage and from traditions you feel drawn to. We will work with the land, as she always holds us. And we will collaborate with your close women.

Are You Ready?

The Blood Rites should be held when you feel them calling to you. They can happen close to the pivotal moment of transition, or months or years later, when you feel their absence. Many times women who attend the Menarche ceremony of a young woman will wish for their own Menarche ceremony, as a part of them was never honored and validated. The loss of a child is always with you, so creating a safe container for grief can be healing at any point. You are ready when you feel it in your bones.

Taking the First Step

Please reach out with questions and interest. The first step is a conversation. Email me or attend a Red Tent gathering and we will begin.

Cost

I feel very strongly that the magic and ripples created from the Blood Rites change the fabric of our lives and our communities forever. There is no single dollar value that can quantify that, so I ask that you consider the value you receive from working with me and share something of similar value with me or with the community.
