Szia - Hi (Hungarian)

kerplunk! a big thud as snow falls off the roof.
The tunnel to the subway in Budapest is amazing. You enter at street level and suddenly you are transported via escalator down a long huge sloping metal tunnel. I'll take a picture and whenever I get them developed I'll post it to the website.

I'm reading the Electric Cool-Aid Acid Test and 'Modern Mystics and Sages' by Anne Bancroft. Lala, my journey for enlightenment continues. I have not seen a lot of Budapest yet, so I can't give you any visualizations, but I have lost my ability to pick a few words out of conversations and get the gist: no more Polish (nie bardzo polska). Hungarian is a beautiful singing language, and it's very nice to see another type of people. Polish people tend to have high foreheads, and the current population of Poland is of a very northern blood, so wide attractive (to me) features. Hungarians tend to have more angular features, and are darker. plenty cool though. i can't wait to explore the city. AND! the father of the woman I am staying with is a famous Hungarian choral director! so, I am definitely going to try to inspire some interest with the fine groups I've been affiliated with. Munib is sending me CDs for the Chorus and GleeClub (Cornell University) to give to him. He invited me to a dress rehearsal today of his prestigious women's chorus, which is singing in an opera starting tomorrow. We got half a meter of snow last night, so the orchestra was late, but once it got started, it was amazing. The soloists were tremendous. The opera is Italian and is written about a Hungarian King who married an Italian woman. In reality she poisoned him in the end, but in the Opera, a British Nobleman kills her. who knows.

Alright. I'll write more when I get to see the city.
My task at the NGO I'm at (NANE Women's Rights) is to create an interactive database (Microsoft Access) for their large library of books on feminism and women trafficking (misleading women from poor countries to go to rich countries and become prostitutes). yay. it's a pretty big office and faces a beautiful courtyard. Only my host speaks english, so Iám in a tough spot to find friends here to explore with. I'm going to do it alone unless some of you have some friends here you can recommend! (No response yet from Kai's friend).

Love and Evergreens,
Angelica
